On the evening of 22 April 2019, the area of Durban, KwaZulu Natal experienced heavy torrential rains ranging from 120-250mm. This lead to widespread flooding which caused major
damage, resulting in many people being left homeless and the loss of over 70 lives. The eThekwini Municipality estimated the damages caused by the floods to be in the region of R 1,1bn (eNCA).
