Conventional Materials Used to Stabilize Road Pavements in South Africa

Soil stabilization is a process which improves the mechanical and bearing qualities of a pavement layer. Materials are blended and mixed with the soil to achieve a desired gradation. This process allows for the road to meet the requirements of the load support according to the pavement design. Material used to stabilize soil must be composed of a combination of natural material and a stabilizing agent (e.g. cement, lime, asphalt emulsion or polymer).
